Gliding in the Peak District

If you are brave enough to try a unique personal challenge, there are several airports based in the Peak District to choose from. Book a tandem flight for the scenery and sensation or sign up for a training course and have yourself a 'go' at paragliding in The Peak District.

Peak Airsports offers taster courses for those who are considering taking up the sport of paragliding. These are not fun days but rather a full day of training and learning is to be expected. For those who want to experience paragliding for the first time then a tandem flight with an experienced professional is also available.  Places are extremely limited so please contact Peak Airsports for more information.

There is a gliding centre at Great Hucklow Camphill Farm, on the edge of escarpment in the heart of the Peak District National Park. So whether you want to learn to fly or are already a glider pilot and just want to enjoy the beautiful location of the Peak District there’s something for everyone.

With the British Gliding Association you can take to the skies in a two-seat glider with an experienced pilot and enjoy this exhilarating experience no matter what your age, physical ability or background.

The British Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association is a country-wide network of recreational clubs and registered schools, and provides the infrastructure within which hang gliding and paragliding in the United Kingdom (UK) thrive.

If you simply want to watch the action, Mam Tor, which overlooks Castleton at the western end of the Hope Valley, is a major local centre for hang gliding and paragliding. Paragliders should only fly from sites where access is arranged with land owners.  You can contact Derbyshire Soaring Club for more information.
