Cooking and Dining

This stylish and comfortable lodge offers spacious living and dining with lots of character.

The fully fitted country style kitchen is equipped with modern appliances and stocked so that you will have everything your need to make your self catering stay comfortable. There is a fridge, separate freezer, microwave , toaster, gas hob and oven, electric kettle and large dishwasher.
To one end of the  open plan kitchen there is a comfortable built in dining area.

One of the pleasures of staying at the lodge is the huge private courtyard which has outdoor seating and a BBQ.  If the weather is in your favour alfresco dining is a must at this property! 

If you didn't fancy cooking yourself then why not take a short walk into the village and enjoy the super food on offer at the local pubs.

The high beamed ceiling and the polished wooden floor provides a wonderful warm room to relax and socialise in. The impressive fire place is the focal point of the room where you can sit and enjoy the warmth of the log burning stove in the cooler months (please supply your own logs)

With ample seating options of comfy sofas and chairs to sink into after a day outdoors, this living area is an inviting and cosy focal point for you to sit and unwind with your family or friends.

The lounge offers a flat screen TV with DVD player. In the summer months open the french doors to bring the outdoors in and enjoy the secluded courtyard area too.

Gardens and Outdoor Space

Situated in a private walled courtyard complete with outdoor furniture and a BBQ available for use from 01st April through to 31st October, please supply your own charcoal and lighting equipment.

There is also a secluded lawned garden beyond the courtyard for the children to have a good run about and play some games.

One of the best features of this location is just across the country lane you are only a few steps from the Monsal Trail. Head off on foot or bike in whatever direction takes your fancy and enjoy the most incredible scenery and dramatic landscape the Peak District has to offer right from your door step. 

For unbeatable famous views of the viaduct at Monsal Head, you can jump on the trail and head through the tunnel to Monsal Head which is less than 15 minute's walk away. Also on the trail and on the way to Bakewell is Hassop Station cafe this is a super family friendly establishment right on the trail and is the nearest bike hire. A must for a coffee stop and piece of cake!

Please note strictly no dogs are allowed at this particular property. There is private parking for up to four cars.

Thornbridge Lodge is nestled down a country lane and provides wonderful village accommodation just on the cusp of Great Longstone. You can walk to a selection of heart-warming country pubs, a village store and buy fresh milk and eggs at the farm. 

Take a leisurely walk through fields to the picture postcard village of Ashford in the Water, one of the most scenic and popular villages in the Peak District National Park. 

Thornbridge Lodge makes a great base for visiting the most amazing of Peak District treats for you to enjoy - the ancient market town of Bakewell, Chatsworth House (10 minutes drive), Haddon Hall (10 minutes drive), historic spa town of Buxton (15 minutes drive) to name just a few.

Directions to Thornbridge Lodge by car from Bakewell (approx. 8 minutes):

  • Follow signs to the A6 (Buxton Road)- continue along this for 1.3 miles
  • After 1.3 miles, turn right onto A6020 (signposted Ashford-in-the-Water, Great Longstone, Monsal Head)
  • After 0.1 miles turn left onto B6465 (Greaves Lane) just before the corner shop, opposite Ashford Arms
  • After 0.5 miles turn right onto Longstone Lane
  • Continue for 0.7 miles onto Station Road
  • The destination will be on your right
  • For Thornbridge Lodge use the first set of gates on the right into the carpark (opposite the entrance to the Monsal Trail and the postbox - before the Thornbridge Manor signpost)
  • You have arrived at Thornbridge Lodge!

  • Follow signs to the A6- continue along this for 12 miles(IGNORE the first signpost to Ashford-in-the-Water after 10 miles next to River Cottage- continue further for 2 miles)
  • Turn left onto A6020 (signposted Ashford-in-the-Water, Great Longstone, Monsal Head)
  • After 0.1 miles turn left onto B6465 (Greaves Lane) just before the corner shop, opposite Ashford Arms

  • From the village of Great Longstone , with The White Lion Pub (good food!) on your left hand side, take the first left down Station Road

  • Drive a little further and on the next left bend, just before a small bridge look for a third set of gates (opposite an entrance to the Monsal Trial and the postbox - after the Thornbridge Manor sign post).

  • The Packhorse, Little Longstone - Lovely historic character features in this compact pub – promotes itself with Walkers and Muddy boots welcome.’ It is worth booking a table for a group as it is popular with the locals.
  • The Manners, Bakewell - Gastro pub with great food and a family friendly beer garden in the heart of Bakewell.

You Should Know

  • Due to horses on site no dogs are allowed at this venue
  • For the comfort of all guests, outdoor shoes are not generally worn on the carpeted area of the house so don’t forget your slippers!
  • No fireworks due to livestock nearby
  • Noise Policy - due to the quiet rural location, late night noise must be confined to inside the building by 10pm. Neighbours are in close proximity.
  • Wifi – we provide free wifi however as the Peak District is in a beautiful rural location sometimes there can be intermittent wifi signal that is beyond our control, we also hope you appreciate that we cannot guarantee wifi if there are technical issues out of our control.
  • Please note this three bedroomed lodge is booked without the self contained apartment (this will be locked down).

  • The balance is due 12 weeks prior to arrival
  • Full payment is due upon booking if it is booked with 12 weeks prior to arrival
  • A cautionary damage deposit of £200 is held and returned after your stay

For ease, lots of our guests pre-ordered a shopping delivery. You are very welcome to organise this however, please do make sure you have arranged the delivery time slot to arrive after you have checked in, as we are unable to accept it on your behalf (as the property is let as exclusive use there are no Peak Venues staff on site).

Keep it local! Our guests often ask for recommendations for local farm shops and butchers for the all-important celebration meals and this is a brilliant and very easy service.  Sauced Here has similar functionality to an on line supermarket but is only stocked by local suppliers in the Peak District - order your wine, meat, vegetables,
dairy and so much more with a choice of over a thousand products and at reasonable prices. It's a great service which delivers straight to your holiday cottage or you can click and collect at a local pick up point.
