No 2 Riverside Cottage is the middle cottage and is just one of three beautifully appointed and charming self catering cottages. There are two double sized bedrooms , sleeping up six guests in total.

The accommodation layout is as follows:

  • Fitted with a shaker style kitchen in a warm cream finish with open plan dinning area with seating for six guests (mixture of benches & chairs/stools)

No 3 Riverside Cottage is situated to the right and the nearest to the River Wye. It is the largest of the three beautifully appointed and charming self catering cottages. There are three double sized bedrooms , sleeping up six guests in total.

Bakewell and The Peak District

Just a few minutes easy walk along the river bank and you arrive at the central hub of Bakewell. This popular country market town is famous for its Bakewell Pudding (with the Original Pudding Shop open every day for you to buy this famous treat), the town also has a variety of independent shops, an abundance of lovely cafes, restaurants and pubs for you to explore and enjoy.

You are literally a short drive away from the most amazing of Peak District treats for you to enjoy - Chatsworth House (10 minutes), Haddon Hall (10 minutes), historic spa town of Buxton (20 minutes) to name just a few.

Alternatively, pop on your boots and head off on foot in whatever direction takes your fancy with access to the most incredible walks and dramatic landscape the Peak District has to offer. We recommend you jump onto the Monsal Trail or drive a short distance to the village of  Ashford in the Water to view the impressive Monsal Dale.

•    From the centre of Bakewell (Rutland Square roundabout with The Rutland Arms Hotel) take the A619 exit signposted ‘Chesterfield, Sheffield, Chatsworth’
•    Follow A619 for 0.5 miles (going over the bridge and following the road round)
•    Take the first left you come to down Holme Lane (this has a dead-end sign but it is the correct way)
•    Follow Holme Lane right to the end and you will come to a sign that says ‘Riverside’, the road turns into a private road which is narrow (there will be a river on your left and houses on your right)
•    Follow the private road until the end (you will go past a large carpark on your right)
•    At the end of the carpark look to your right and you will see a row of 3 cottages. Take a right turn towards the cottages and there is parking right in front of the cottages for you to use (2 spaces per cottage)

•    If approaching from Chesterfield or Sheffield, follow signs to Baslow
•    On approaching Baslow there will be a roundabout with 3 exits (Baslow, Sheffield, Chesterfield)
•    Take the exit onto A619 towards Baslow signposted ‘Bakewell, Buxton, Manchester & Chatsworth, Haddon Hall’
•    Follow A619 for 0.6 miles until you approach a roundabout with a tennis/cricket/football fields on your left
•    At the roundabout take the 1st exit towards the A619 signposted ‘Bakewell, Rowsley & Chatsworth, Haddon Hall’
•    After 0.3 miles take the right turning towards A619 signposted ‘Bakewell, Buxton, Beeley, Rowsley, Matlock & Haddon Hall’
•    Follow this for approx. 3.1 miles (The 13 bends)
•    You will go past a hospital on your left (Newholme Hospital). Almost immediately after the hospital there is a right hand turn onto a road call ‘Holme Lane’, take this right turn (this has a dead-end sign but it is the correct way)
•    Follow Holme Lane right to the end and you will come to a sign that says ‘Riverside’, the road turns into a private road which is narrow (there will be a river on your left and houses on your right)

•    Continue on the A6 for 7.6 miles passing through the village of Rowsley, road turns into Haddon Road

1. Spend a day exploring the historic market town of Bakewell

Bakewell is the largest town within the Peak District National Park and is a hub of activity. Market day is on a Monday and as well as a large range of
stalls there is also an agricultural market which is definitely worth a look around as it offers a great insight todays farming community. The town also hosts a craft and gift fair every weekend in Brigade town hall. The Bakewell Old House Museum occupies one of the oldest buildings in Bakewell and dates back to 1543, it provides a fascinating  glimpse into the towns past and is very interesting and informative with lots to appeal to all ages.Obviously no trip to Bakewell would be complete without sampling an original Bakewell pudding. The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop claims to have the old the original recipe and still makes the puddings by hand from the secret recipe.

2.Visit Haddon Hall

Haddon Hall has welcomed visitors for hundreds of years and its beauty and atmosphere never fails to enchant.Described by SimonJenkins in “1000 Best Houses” as “the most perfect house to survive from the middle ages”.  Set in the heart of the beautiful Peak District National Park, parts of the house date from the 12th Century, sitting like a jewel in its Elizabethan terraced gardens, and overlooking the River Wye.Film-makers flock to Haddon Hall to use it as a location. The house and grounds have played host to no less than three versions of “Jane Eyre”. Screen credits also include "Elizabeth”, "Pride & Prejudice”, “The Other Boleyn Girl” and“The Princess Bride”, the cult classic movie in which Haddon Hall becomes Prince Humperdinck’s Castle and village.  The Hall is open to the public, however please note that it does close for periods throughout the winter season, so please check its website for its opening times and special events.

3. Take a tour around the Thornbridge Brewery

This award-winning brewery is located within Riverside Business Park. Taking a tour of this state-of-the art brewery is a must for any real ale
lover. Tours take place very Wednesday and Friday at 3pm, booking is advisable. Also, if you are staying with us in the last week of the month, the brewery holds two socials on the last Wednesday (5-9pm) and the last Saturday (12-8pm) of each month. They generally have a range of 10 cask and keg Thornbridge beers, including Thornbridge favourites and some of their rarer beers. They also run brewery tours on these socials at 6 and 7pm on the Wednesday and 3 and 5pm on the Saturday, again booking is advisable.

4. Cycle or Walk the Monsal Trail

With the Monsal Trial  close by (access to the trail is a short walk across Bakwell) it would be rude not to take the opportunity to cycle/walk along this old Midland Railway line which runs from Bakewell right up to Blackwell Mill, in Chee Dale. The trail offers 8.5 miles of traffic free and mud free cycling/walking and with the recently reopened tunnels offers one of the most spectacular leisure routes in Britain for cycling, walking and horse riding. The nearest cycle hire is at Hassop station which is great place to stop for a bite to eat or for a coffee and nice piece of home made cake! There is also a lovely little gift shop and book shop and a children’s play area.

5. Chatsworth House and Park

No visit to the Peak District would be complete without visiting the fabulous Chatsworth House. At Chatsworth there is something to do for every member of the family. The Farmyard and Adventure playground is a brilliant day out for children of all ages - with animal handling, milking demonstrations and daily activities, plus a woodland adventure playground with slides, trampolines and more!Then there is obviously the house itself, steeped with history it’s one of Britain’s greatest stately homes and has been passed down through 16 generations of the Cavendish family. The gardens are equally as impressive as the house, over 100 acres and as well and the beautiful flowers and plants, there are giant water features and sculptures dotted around.

A basic weekend supply of the following (as there are no staff on site if you run out you will have to replace):

  • Loo rolls ( 1 x on the holder and 1 spare per bathroom)
  • Washing up liquid
  • Cling film & kitchen foil
  • Bin bags
  • 5 x dishwasher tablets
  • 2 x tea towels
  • 1 x dish cloth
  • Basic cleaning materials
  • Mop & bucket
  • Vacuum cleaner
  • Store cupboard essentials – a basic supply of tea, coffee, sugar and salt and pepper.
  • 1 pint of semi-skimmed milk
  • Utilities - Electric, gas, heating and hot water
  • Wifi (fibre)

Useful Information

Each cottage has the following:

  • 1 x travel cot (if requested - please supply your own cot linen)
  • 1 x high chairs (if requested)
  • Fresh linen with beds made up upon arrival
  • Fresh towels - one bath sheet and one hand towel per guest, plus two hand towels in downstairs toilet.
  • 1 x log burner in the main living room. 1 x complimentary basket of logs supplied upon arrival (due to health and safety we cannot supply fire lighters or matches so please bring your own).
  • Smart TV's in all bedrooms, kitchen and living room.
  • Iron & ironing board
  • Washing machine and tumble dryer
  • The owners' reception (Litton Property Group) is on site and open from Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm.

Cooking and Dining

For any kitchen items that are absolutely vital for your stay, please check with us before your visit to ensure that it is at the property (as things do sometimes get broken). The following kitchen appliances are supplied in each cottage:

  • Pots, pans, roasting tins, crockery, glassware and cutlery
  • Gas hob and electric oven
  • Microwave
  • Frost free fridge freezer
  • Dishwasher
  • Double toaster
  • Cafetiere
  • Kettle
  • Dining table and seating for 6 guests in each cottage. Dining table in cottage 3 is extendable and there are 2 additional folding chairs.

Outside

  • Riverside Cottages 1, 2 and 3 are terraced cottages with separate gardens to front and rear. The external perimeter of the three cottages is walled and the gardens are separated by wooden fencing.
  • Two parking spaces are provided in the front of each cottage and additional car parking is available to the side of the cottages.
  • Outdoor table and chairs for each cottage
  • BBQ for each cottage - please provide your own charcoal.
  • Fishing - If you wish to take a fishing lesson or hire a rood, please contact Stephen Moores (Fishery Manager) on 07597233491.  A fishing daily pass
    can be purchased at reception within working hours (£40).

You Should Know

  • Please note that we are dog friendly in cottages 1 and 2 only,  however dogs must be kept under control at all times.  For your information, a maximum of two dogs are allowed in cottage 1 and 2 if pre-arranged -  you will be expected to keep them out of the bedrooms and off the soft furnishings.  We do charge £20 per dog for the duration of your stay.  Please see our dog policy for further details.
  • Noise policy in place - not suitable for stag/hen groups or 30th birthday celebrations due to residential area.
  • Due to the character and age of the cottages, please note that the stairs are very steep so maybe unsuitable for the elderly or toddlers.
  • No fireworks
  • Wifi – we provide free wifi however as the Peak District is in a beautiful rural location sometimes there can be intermittent wifi signal that is beyond our control, we also hope you appreciate that we cannot guarantee wifi if there are technical issues out of our control.

Booking and Payment Procedure

  • We ask for a 25% deposit to confirm a booking
  • The balance is due 12 weeks prior to arrival
  • Full payment is due upon booking if it is booked with 12 weeks prior to arrival
  • A cautionary damage deposit of £200 is held per cottage and returned after your stay

  •  Check in 3pm or after
  • Check out is by 10am prompt

Shopping Delivery Information

For ease, lots of our guests pre-ordered a shopping delivery. You are very welcome to organise this however, please do make sure you have arrange the delivery time
slot to arrive after you have checked in, as we are unable to accept it on your behalf (as the property is let as exclusive use there is are no Peak Venus staff on site).

Local Shopping Delivery From Local Producers - Sauced Here

Keep it local! Our guests often ask for recommendations for local farm shops and butchers for the all-important celebration meals and this is a brilliant and very easy service.  Sauced Here has similar functionality to an on line supermarket but is only stocked by local suppliers in the Peak District - order your wine, meat,
vegetables, dairy and so much more with a choice of over a thousand products and at reasonable prices. It's a great service which delivers straight to your
 holiday cottage or you can click and collect at a local pick up point.
